PT Kandel, based in Karawaci, Tangerang, Indonesia, provides products and services to enhance science and math education in elementary and middle schools in Indonesia. Its staff works in several areas of expertise, from book publication to multimedia on-line delivery. They work on the development of science and math education systems at the national level as well as on initiatives with limited scope and very specific purposes, such as small school-based learning systems.
Kandel’s primary focus is on improving science and math learning. The emphasis is the improvement of basic skills and knowledge of science and math among school students and teachers. The teaching and learning materials are designed and created by Kandel to eliminate the phobia on science and math among learners. The company has been producing books, CD-ROMs, and exhibits that prompt students’ and teachers’ curiosity and excitement. Using “fun” and “interesting” as the main themes of learning materials; Kandel is becoming one of the major learning companies in Indonesia. Indeed, its products and services with “Asyik, Mudah, dan Menyenangkan” (fun, easy, and interesting) label have been a household name in many schools in Indonesia, both in schools at big cities and small villages alike.
Kandel’s reputation is always high because of Prof. Yohanes Surya, Ph.D’s patronage and support. Prof. Surya has been training Indonesian students to win gold medals in the International Physics Olympiad (IphO) since in the 90s. He assists Kandel’s creative staff to embark on a challenging endeavor to make science and math the most interesting subjects in schools. As a result, Kandel staff members are becoming leaders in the appropriate use of technology to address issues of multimedia learning and quality teaching. They use Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) such as computer graphics, online learning portals, and digital video to improve the teaching of science and math in the classrooms. They also employ more traditional technologies such as books and worksheets to deliver interactive instruction where Indonesian school systems rarely utilize. Kandel consists of four divisions:

Book publisherPT Kandel has published 25 titles in 2006 for elementary school level and worksheets have been delivered to schools throughout Indonesia: 21 Provinces, 278 Regencies and more than 1500 schools
In 2007 PT. Kandel will publish 12 science books for elementary school, Physics books for junior high schools and for senior high schools. The author of the books is Prof. Yohanes Surya, PhD.
PT. Kandel also sells Prof. Yohanes Surya PhD books that have been published by other publishers such as: Fisika itu Asyik, Kumpulan Olimpiade Fisika 1,2, dan 3, Fisika untuk Semua, Aplikasi Fisika dalam Analisa Keuangan, Mestakung, etc. Those books will be reprinted by PT. Kandel because the publisher was closed down in 2006.
Interactive learning CDPT Kandel, through its EYO and EQUINOX division, has created 89 interactive learning CDs. The interactive learning CDs have been used to enhance students’
science and math learning experience in 21 Provinces, 278 Regencies and more than 1500 schools
Multimedia and On-line deliveryPT Kandel, through its Equinox division, has signed a deal with PT Indosat IM2 and Hewlett Packard to deliver science and math learning materials on the Internet and mobile devices.
Exhibits and laboratory equipmentsPT Kandel, through its Exa Edu Technology, creates science exhibits and lab equipments to help students and teachers conducting their learning sessions. Exa Edu Tech created a Ruang Gerak Cerdas Energy in Museum Listrik, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah and will sign with Mitra Mandiri Foundation to build a tsunami simulation in Aceh
